Abstract
This bachelor’s thesis describes the process of updating the robotics chapter of the programming subject in the second school level digiõpik. The Study material in the chapter was composed in 2017 and has by now become outdated. For example, a new version of the software used in the chapter has been released, which differs greatly from the one used in the materials.
The robotics chapter gives students the preliminary knowledge about programming with robots. The updated material introduces four different robots – mBot, Codey Rocky, LEGO SPIKE Prime and LEGO Mindstorms EV3. During the chapter, the students are introduced to the different parts of their robots, for example the main sensors, and a block-based programming language Scratch.
The purpose of this thesis is to create an updated example of study material, which contains more possibilities to use different robots. In the future the composed material will be further tested with the help of robotics teachers. The tested and amended material can be used as a basis for the updating of the digiõpik. The theoretical part of the thesis gives an overview of the situation of teaching computer science and robotics in schools, the shortcomings of existing study materials and the principles followed while updating the robotics chapter.
