Commonly used practical communication channels can be described by the model of the ISI channel. Communication systems developed without taking into account the ISI phenomenon have significantly inferior performance being applied to the practical channels. A standard approach to improving system performance is to use a BCJR-type equalizer whose complexity is determined by the number of states of the ISI filter, which grows exponentially with the filter length. The goal of this project is the design of the equalization for cases of binary and nonbinary signaling.
