Research Question:
How does the public perceive the potential threat of AI superintelligence, and what are their concerns about its alignment with human interests?

Data Collection:
Focus groups: Conduct focus groups with diverse groups (e.g., students, professionals, and laypeople) to explore their perceptions of AI superintelligence, focusing on concerns about its alignment with human agency, autonomy, and ethical values.

Participatory design workshop: Conduct a design workshop where participants examine specific scenarios where superintelligent AI could pose risks. The participants will then create potential design solutions to mitigate identified threats, and explore the role of future scenarios that illustrate ideas that could influence the development of safe AI systems.

Data Analysis: Thematic analysis: Analyze the attitudes and opinions expressed by participants regarding the potential of AI superintelligence, focusing on key concerns like loss of human agency and societal disruption

Narrative analysis: Examine the stories and scenarios participants describe when discussing AI superintelligence, identifying patterns in how they frame risks and alignment challenges.
