Abstract
This Bachelor thesis contains the usability evaluation of four common open source content
management systems (Wordpress 3.1, Joomla 1.6.1, Drupal 7.0 and CMSMadeSimple
1.9.4.1). The purpose of the thesis was to point out common open source content
management systems usability problems.
In the beginning everyday use-cases were created to have common tasks to perform on all
the systems. Then evaluation criteria were created based on the CMS specific usability
heuristics. And finally the heuristics based evaluation was performed by completing the
use-cases. Usability errors were written down and then categorized under the evaluation
points.
As the results of the evaluation showed, there were a few heavy violations of the heuristics
and quite a lot minor problems. At the end we concluded that open source content
management systems have many usability problems.
