Abstract
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to create teaching material in Estonian about the salinity sensor made by Vernier Company. The thesis explains, how salinity sensor can be used with LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT set and gives a few sample exercises for teachers and students who want to learn to use it.
The first part of the bachelor thesis gives a brief overview of salinity, describes its definitions and measuring methods to give the reader a better understanding of salinity.. The second part is about salinity sensor, its technical specification and working principles. Also detailed descriptions are given on how to connect it with LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT set and how to use it in NXT-G programming environment. The third part is more practical and consists of four sample exercises for salinity sensor and LEGO MINDSTORM NXT set. Every exercise consists of instructions, list of needed equipment, solution and list of problems which may occur. The programs that are part of the solutions are available on CD which is added to this thesis.
This bachelor thesis has a similar structure to other thesis about LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT so it can be used as a part of teaching material that is used in Estonian schools. This work is intended to be used by both teachers and students to make the learning more interesting and fun.
