Abstract
The main goal of this bachelor thesis was to support teachers and students to use Vernier BAR-BTA barometer in combination with LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT robotics development kit and LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT-G software in Estonian schools.
The thesis is composed of three parts. The first part includes the story of discovering that air has weight by Italian physicist Evangelista Torricelli and describes the experiment that proved it. More than that, the first part of the thesis gives insight to the uses of air pressure measurement and most important areas where air pressure measurement is used today like meteorology and aviation. Also the working principles of devices used in these areas, like barometers, barographs and altimeters are explained.
The second part of this thesis gives overview of the technical aspects of the BAR-BTA barometer. It describes the use of Vernier Sensor Block which enables the use of LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT-G software for creating programs that run on the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT brick.
To achieve the main goal of the thesis four assignments were formulated in the third part. All assignments contain the description and the main idea for solving the problem. In addition NXT-G solution files to the problems are provided on the DVD included with this thesis for easing the preparation of classes for robotics teachers.
