Abstract
The purpose of this bachelor thesis was to introduce the LEGO Mindstorms NXT compatible Vernier’ low-g accelerometer. This thesis gave a fair understanding about Vernier’ low-g accelerometer, it’s technical attributes and some ideas how to use it in different situations. In addition, few practical exercised for low-g accelerometer were created.
The material created in this thesis will be used in Educational Robotics Program. The material should be understandable to secondary school students and their teachers. The thesis has been divided into three bigger chapters and the structure of other LEGO Mindstorms NXT related theses have been of influence when writing this particular one.
The first part of the thesis describes the nature of two physical phenomena: velocity and acceleration. Some examples are brought from real life and a brief description about an accelerometer and it’s usage has been pointed out.
The second part of the thesis concentrates on the introduction of the Vernier’ low-g accelerometer. It’s specifications and usage in different situations is brought out and a detailed description how to use this specific accelerometer in NXT-G programs has been provided.
The last part consists of four tasks with different levels of difficulty. They can be solved using Vernier’ low-g accelerometer with LEGO Mindstorms NXT robots. The first two tasks are easier and suitable to get to know the sensor described in this thesis. The last two task are a bit more difficult and requires the ability to use different LEGO Mindstorms NXT compatible sensors simultaneously in one NXT-G program.
