Creating an Elective Module “Database Queries” for the Secondary School Level

Name
Siim Tanel Laisaar
Abstract
The purpose of this bachelor’s thesis is to create a 10-hour elective module about database queries for the secondary school level by following the flipped-classroom methodology. The digital learning material of the elective module is meant to support students who have chosen the course „DigiTaru ehk digilahenduse arendusprojekt“ from the Estonian secondary school informatics syllabus. To be more precise, the students will need support creating a hardware or software project prototype as part of that course. The learning materials of the elective module were created based on Merrill’s Instructional Design Principles. One introductory chapter and 10 content chapters, including tens of assessment questions and example tasks, which were uploaded to the e-textbook hosted on Pressbooks, were created as part of this bachelor’s thesis. Based on feedback, the created learning materials can be assessed as high quality and there is reason to believe that they will be useful for secondary school level students.
