The Development and Conduct of the Practical Elective Course "IoT Solutions" for Upper Secondary Schools at Tartu Jaan Poska Gymnasium

Abstract
The aim of the master's thesis was to develop and conduct a practical elective course IoT Solutions on the upper secondary school level. One of the aims of the practical elective course was to introduce a way of solving problems with the help of technology to the students so that they can gain practical experience in the field of information technology. As hardware solutions, a microcontroller based on an ESP32 chip and digital and analog sensors were used in the course. MicroPython programming language was used to create IoT solutions.
The course material was created following the principles of the ADDIE model. The author of the master's thesis piloted the course at Tartu Jaan Poska Gymnasium with students in grades 10‒11. On the basis of the students' feedback questionnaire, the author can be satisfied with the selected hardware and topics of the course. The course will remain in the list of electives in the following school years at Tartu Jaan Poska Gymnasium.
