Abstract
The aim of this bachelor's thesis was to assess the suitability of the ATMI instrument translated to Estonian language and to investigate whether and to what extent attitudes towards mathematics are related to programming. The survey was conducted among the participants of the University of Tartu “Programmeerimisest maalähedaselt” MOOC in 2015, and the open source program JASP was used to analyze the results. The results showed that the ATMI (Attitudes Toward Mathematics Inventory) instrument in Estonian language is suitable for use. The statistical tests revealed a strong relationship between the enjoyment of mathematics and the value of mathematics categories, both of which were part of the ATMI instrument for measuring attitudes towards mathematics. The relationship between attitudes towards mathematics and programming was examined from the perspective of previous programming experience and attitudes towards programming. No statistical relationship with attitudes towards mathematics was found for either group of statements.
