Abstract
Many people with COVID-19 have experienced a number of persistent health problems after the acute phase of the disease. It is commonly called as „long covid“. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of long-COVID-19 on drug use and healthcare contacts in the Estonian population. The method of analysis is a self-controlled case series study and uses administrative health data collected across multiple registers from Estonia. The study compared the results of the COVID-19 group with people with other respiratory findings who had not been infeccted with COVID-19. As a result of the work, it was found that the COVID-19 group consumes more cardiovascular drugs, nervous system drugs and vitamins.
People with other respiratory diseases consumed more drugs containing different antibiotics, some respiratory drugs, and medicines for the sensory organs. In addition, people with COVID-19 were found to have more outpatient contact than people with respiratory disease. There was no significant difference in the inpatient contacts between the two groups.
