Abstract
Tooru is being developed for K9 self-propelled howitzers by Estonian Defence Forces. To train the mostly conscript crewmembers in use of the software, there was need for training materials to teach a software that is still being developed. When creating training materials, a specific documentation (SVE) had to be followed. This document is based on NATO SAT model, which is an iteration of the ADDIE model.
As per SAT model, the end result of training was described first (a job description of positions the soldiers would be assigned once their training is complete). Once end result was approved, Learning Objectives were phrased, training conditions identified and training materials produced. Two Class Plans and an exam was produced, as well as separate instructions for the course plan. Course plan itself could not be produced due to the course specifics.
The results were introduced to an expert group. These experts, consisting of K9 howitzer instructors and specialists on performance objectives advised the author on best approach for training strategy as well as contents of the training. To test the created products, a pilot course was conducted with 27 students participating in the training. The expert interviews concluded that materials created are based on their needs when training. The pilot course results showed that this course fulfilled its purpose about achieving the study goals. Final version of the training materials is now complete and can be put to use immediately. As new versions of Tooru software are released, the training material must also be updated.
