Abstract
The significance of computer science education for students has been increasingly recognized in recent years due to the growing importance of digital literacy in the modern world. To enable young individuals to make informed decisions in both their academic and personal lives, it is crucial that they are introduced to computer science, along with other subjects taught in basic education. The objective of this bachelor’s thesis is to formulate study materials that are intended for teaching programming to students in third stage of study (grades 7-9). The course is structured into seventeen 90-minute lessons, all aimed at providing students with basic knowledge of informatics and programming. The students were consistently requested to provide feedback on their enjoyment of the course and the course materials. The surveys conducted also assessed their general attitude towards programming. Based on the survey results, revisions were made to the initial practical materials. The study revealed that the programming course developed as a part of this work provided an appropriately challenging learning experience for students in third stage of study. Additionally, it was evident that the course resulted in a considerable decrease in students’ perception of programming being complicated.
