Abstract
Due to the vastly different properties of water compared to air, different approaches should be taken for wireless communications. Compared to air, the performance of some communication techniques are improved underwater, while some others are deteriorated. In this thesis, an overview of the current state of wireless underwater communication is given. Additionally, a simple wireless optical communications system is tested for it's susceptibility to different underwater factors like turbidity and turbulence.
