Abstract
The student needs to find different technologies used in enabling smart homes. The technologies include, communication technologies, smart home platforms and solutions (including commercials and open source), devices used in smart homes etc. Some commercial smart home solutions are Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings, IFTTT, Athom Homey, etc. Different devices include Smart Speakers, Smart Plugs, smart camera, etc. Some communication channels include Infrared, Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth, Thread, Zigbee, Z-Wave, KNX, etc. The smart home solutions should be compared from different aspects such as Ease of Operation, Expansion, Compatible Device Offerings, Security, Company Stability, Voice Control, Multi-User Support, Mobile Device Compatibility, Scalability, personalisations, expansionability, etc.
