Profiling the energy usage by the high performance computing centres

Organization

Abstract
Private data centres use hundreds-thousands of servers consuming huge energy for keeping the temperature at control. The existing cloud traces do not provide any information related to the energy usage of those servers. However, there are thousands of research articles focusing on energy-aware cloud resource management strategies (with no real energy related traces). This also makes it harder to get the insight of how servers consume the energy. What is the relationship between the workload on the servers and their energy usage? Is there any energy leakage/wastage?

This thesis will focus on gathering the energy consumption trace from the HPC @UT. After collecting the data, the student needs to make a statistical analysis of those and see how HPC servers are consuming the energy.
