Abstract
The main goal of the e-course "School Robotics I" is to have IT students and educational teachers who study in University of Tartu knowledge of the robotics subject at schools. The course has been taught at IT faculty since 2011. It is a Moodle e-course which was based up to now on Lego Mindstorms NXT base set. There is no further production of this set, but it is still widely used at schools. In 2013 LEGO started new version LEGO Mindstorms EV3. There are also several other robotics sets used at schools. Therefore, the mentioned e-course needed updating.
The main purpose of the present thesis is to re-new and update the "School Robotics I" course especially for basic school program in the 1st and 2nd stages. This concerns about half of the e-course materials. In the preliminary stage of the work we gathered and systematized available robotics materials and then designed updated study materials for robotics sets Bee-Bot, LEGO WeDo 2,0 and LEGO Mindstorms EV3. The course is not only an e-course anymore but combined course where the students have to participate in sessions and to perform tasks on individual assingments. The Master’s thesis does not deal with the robotics programs for basic school 3rd stage and secondary education.
The students who attend the course "School Robotics I" will be prepared to teach robotics classes at schools and lead the relevant interest groups. In the future the course should also be opened for robotics teachers, educational IT specialist interested in expanding their knowledge etc, as well as for other teaching personnel wanting to use robots in their curriculum.
